Biography:

Dr. Watts hails from Lithonia, Georgia and completed her undergraduate degree in Biology with a minor in Computer Sciences from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio. She earned her medical degree at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, IA. She completed her intern year at Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, then transferred to the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL to complete her residency in General Surgery. She also had the privilege of completing a Fellowship in Burn Surgery at the NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Burn Center in New York, NY.

Since 2011, Dr. Watts has enjoyed a rich varied career in both the private and public sector. She has had the pleasure of operating with surgeons from all over the world as well as serving in many underserved communities across the nation. As such, Dr Watts has developed a particular interest in rural general surgery with an emphasis on closing the gaps in disparities in healthcare among rural underserved populations - particularly with regards to Colon and Breast Cancer screening. She also enjoys helping to manage new/chronic wounds in a multidisciplinary fashion.

Dr. Watts has had an interest in the field of medicine since the third grade. Growing up in Atlanta, the outside summer temperatures were nearly unbearable, so she was perfectly content to stay inside and peruse her mother's medical textbooks and journals from nursing school. "My mother is the reason I became interested in Medicine." Her curiosity about the wide-breadth of pathology illustrated in those books sparked an early interest in Biology which carried across elementary school and into medical school where she served as a tutor for freshmen medical students in Gross Anatomy and Cell Biology. "Tutoring was a valuable experience because it taught me to slow down and explain topics in small portions. I use these same skills today when explaining complex surgical issues to my patients and their families. I enjoy helping them navigate the sometimes difficult/stressful world of General Surgery."

Dr. Watts is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Medical Association of Alabama, American Society of Breast Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Burn Association. Additionally, Dr Watts is a member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta, Inc as well as The Links, Inc. While the majority of her family resides in the metro Atlanta area, her two fur babies, Milo and Samson have accompanied her on the move to Ozark. She looks forward to joining the medical community in Ozark and is honored that Dale Medical Center has granted her the privilege to care for your family, friends and loved ones!
