Behavior Health Clinical Nurse Manager - Behavior Health
Job Description

The Clinical Nurse Manager is a professional care giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the nursing functions, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for a 25 bed behavior health unit for geriatric and acute adult patients. This position is instrumental for the overall functioning of the delivery of behavioral health care to all patients and is responsible for the clinical management of the milieu and is recognized as a member of the management team.

EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Licensure in the State of Alabama as a Registered Nurse (RN). Mental Health certification and/or two years experience preferred. One year management experience is preferred. Managing Crisis Safely Certification is required within 90 days of employment.

JOB KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: Requires knowledge of Federal and State regulatory agency standards related to health care organizations. Cognitive and technical knowledge and the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken and written word. Must be flexible with work scheduling. Involves discretion and independent action within prescribed limits. The Nurse Manager will be required to perform all tasks in accordance to established standards of care. •Develop and maintain a functioning team. Mentors, directs, leads and inspires the team. Encourage professional responsibility and assists with professional development.
•Defines key staff productivity and quality indicators that meet industry standards.
•Ensure compliance with the standards set by Medicaid, Medicare and other regulatory and accrediting bodies.
•Ensures effective productivity within clinical departments.
•Provide oversight for internal customer education, consultation, and problem resolution and prevention.
•Actively participate in regularly scheduled (monthly, or quarterly) meetings with department heads, Medical Directors, CNO, CFO, and CEO.
•Discuss problems and issues with members to find appropriate resolution.
•Develop Productivity reports
•Identify employee education needs and provide information for development of education programs.
•Support employee education by verifying and monitoring employee progress and support targeted areas for increased education.
•Identification of quality indicators and measurement for audits.
•Contribute to the development of, and the review and revision of policies and procedures.
•Directly responsible for the implementation of divisional initiatives and projects.
•Proactively develop and update process improvement plans for internal and external customers.
•Collaborate with QM department to identify and implement quality improvement activities.
•Responsible for development and implementation of Behavioral Health requirements as outlined in the applicable contract to ensure compliance with State and Federal requirements. This includes all Policies and procedures related to daily operations, risk stratification, authorization services, Care Coordination, Transition of care and care management services.
•Management of Behavioral Health Team Leads, Supervisors, and other staff as assigned.
•Developing relationships with behavior health providers.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three years relevant experience in the care of the mentally ill and supervision of paraprofessional staff; assessment, planning, provision and evaluation of psychiatric nursing care to patients. Experience with medication teaching, management of the therapeutic milieu and providing mandatory and voluntary in-service training to all staff.
