Dale Medical Center has been awarded a three-year accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for its mammography services, announced Pat. Blackburn, Director of Radiology. "We are very pleased to be awarded full accreditation status for mammography," Blackburn said. "This assures our patients that they are receiving the best possible images, using the latest technology. ACR accreditation also highlights our radiologist’s skill in interpreting mammography images which is a key factor in early diagnosis." "This accreditation exemplifies the hospital's quest for excellence, and takes us well beyond the minimum standards of practice," added Vernon L. Johnson, CEO. "Having this level of oversight and validation is testimony to the commitment we show to each of our patients. Our radiologist Dr. Dudley Terrell has set the bar at a level that assures us of this accomplishment. His insistence on imaging excellence and quality patient care is clearly evident." Headquartered in Reston VA, the ACR is the principal organization of radiologists, radiation oncologists, and clinical medical physicists in the United States. The College is a nonprofit professional society, whose primary purpose is to advance the science of radiology, improve radiologic services to the patient, study the socioeconomic aspects of radiology, and encourages continuing education for radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicist and persons practicing and allied professional fields. Dale Medical Center was awarded accreditation for its achievement of high practice standards after a peer - review evaluation of the hospital's practice. Over a 45 day period, of evaluations of actual mammography cases and quality control images were conducted by board-certified physician and medical physicist who are experts in the field, according to Blackburn. The ACR also reviews the qualifications of personnel as well as the facilities quality assurance programs. "This accreditation is a strong indicator to patients at our images and personnel who work in the department are of top notch quality," Blackburn added. "This is a stringent process and very challenging to pass. Every detail has to be perfect." |
